How I Make Stuff
My work is built in a variety of ways. I hand build, throw, extrude or some combination thereof. Here are six ramen bowls thrown on the wheel, trimmed and waiting to dry.
Once the piece is “bone” dry, I apply the furst layer of slips using a lot of masking tape. The slip is called “Skull Crack” and is colored with a variety of oxides and colorants.
Applying the Surfaces
Once the slips are applied, the piece is bisqued to cone o6. The surface is painted with black underglaze and wiped off which highlights the crackle in the slips. The surface designs are now applied with more masking tape. I also use tiny squeeze bottles and my own custom made rubber stamps.
